Rights and duties of the patient’s watcher

Patient's Companion (Watcher) Rights

  • Availability of clear policies and regulations pertaining to the patient's companionship.
  • Provision of adequate nutrition.§ Provide mattresses or chairs to be used by the patient's companion in accordance with established PSCC regulations.§ Issue a Companion Card for the companion.
  • Be informed of things that are not allowed inside the PSCC.
  • The patient's companion is entitled to file a written complaint or suggestions, signed or unsigned, to the Patient Services Department without compromise to the quality of service provided to the patient.
  • Be informed of the medical decision to transfer the patient to another place within or outside the PSCC, and whether to allow him/ her to accompany the patient through the transfer process in addition to giving him/ her the necessary instructions.
  • Be informed of the mechanism pertaining to exiting and returning to the PSCC, as necessary.
  • Be informed of companionship duration allowed by the medical team and the process of renewing the companion form.
  • Be informed of the inpatient facilities that he/ she is entitled to use or be present at.
  • The patient's companion is not a substitute for the nursing staff, and not originally responsible for assisting the nursing staff in providing the nursing care required for the patient.
  • Be informed of aspects of assistance that he/ she may provide to the nursing staff in respect to patient care. However, the patient's companion is entitled to refuse to provide any kind of assistance to nursing staff in association with the patient care.
  • Inquire about how to behave in the event of fire or disaster.
  • Respect the patient's companion when dealing directly with him/ her.
  • Respect the patient's values ​​and cultural, social and religious beliefs.

Patient's Companion (Watcher) Responsibilities

  • Assist in completing the necessary measures to accompany the patient.
  • Treat all PSCC staff and other patients politely and respectfully.
  • Observe and respect the patient's privacy.
  • Adheres to the instructions communicated to him/her by the medical team and nursing staff
  • Report any unexpected changes in the patient's health condition to the medical team and nursing staff.
  • Refrain from giving the patient any type of medications.
  • Refrain from giving the patient any kind of food or beverages without consultation with the medical team and nursing staff.
  • Refrain from assisting the patient in violating the instructions of the medical team and nursing staff.
  • Refrain from leaving the patient's room unless it is necessary. Ensure to notify the nursing staff when leaving the room and inform them of the expected time of absence and of his/ her return to the facility.
  • Commitment to public decency in addition to respecting others personal values, cultural, social and religious beliefs.
  • Respect the privacy of other patients and companions (watchers).
  • Comply with PSCC regulations and guidelines.
  • Preserving the property and cleanness of the PSCC.
  • Refrain from bringing things that are not allowed inside the PSCC, and be responsible for consequences entailed in violating such policy.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the center.
